Rumors were circulating in 2017 that Jesse Williams had left his then wife for a white woman called Minka Kelly. I don’t really get involved in celebrity gossip or who’s dating who. However, being that it was Jesse Williams, a self professed pro Black man, I did make a video about it in 2017. If you watch the video above you’ll see what I had to say about it at the time. Of course at the time it was not confirmed whether they were dating or not.

At the time it was just a photo of them next to each other. It turns out they were dating.

Pro Black in an interracial relationship?

So can Jesse Williams still be considered Pro-Black if he’s with a white woman? The short answer is no. You can’t be pro-Black if you’re in an interracial relationship. That’s not to say that you can never make amends, ditch the non Black person and find Black love lol. People change, they mature, get more educated and wake up to reality. I haven’t followed much of Jesse Williams’ dating escapades, but I am aware he has exclusively dated Black women since his foolishness with Minka Kelly. He’s recent relationship is with Taylor Paige (A Black woman) and he was dating Taylor Rooks in 2018 (another Black woman). What’s with all the Taylors? I know he was also dating Ciarro Pardo another Black woman directly after the Minka Kelly situation. Strangely enough Ciarro Pardo looks exactly like his ex wife Aryn Drake-Lee.

So was his white girl moment, a glitch in the pro-Black matrix? Can he come back to the fold of consciousness? 

2 years or so later, his ex wife Aryn Drake-Lee decided to break her silence.

Aryn Drake-Lee has broken her silence two years after ex-husband Jesse Williams filed for divorce. She’s now in a battle with Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse over their two young children, Sadie, five and Maceo, three, however she’s opened up on her years helping her then-husband make it in tinseltown. The former real estate agent, who has a podcast BBSARETRASH claimed she was ‘running the household’ while Jesse pursued his Hollywood dreams in California.

He has played Dr Jackson Avery for the past 10 years, making his debut as a guest, before being promoted, to a series regular in 2009.

Aryn said ‘When the divorce process started I had two nursing babies, and I am the one that ran our household for the 14 and a half years that he and I were together in the same house. And for our children, and for the creation of the businesses that we built together when I left my career in New York for us to move to California to pursue his, and then as a result built it…I knew, as the one that was really holding it all together, that I didn’t have a lot of room to fall, even though I was falling.’ She added: ‘I was in a place where I needed the support that was going to help to ground me.’

Did he cheat?

While neither party has spoken about the reasons their marriage broke down, Jesse previously rubbished claims of infidelity. ‘I was in a relationship 13 years, 13 real years, not five years, not seven years – 13 years. All of a sudden motherf**kers are writing think-pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship,’ he said on Footnotes for 4:44, the visual component to Jay-Z‘s last album. ‘Like, the most painful experience I’ve had in my life like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart – that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute.’

So according to Jesse Williams he didn’t cheat on his then wife.
I know some people believe that Jesse owes his wife loyalty for helping him build his career and for being his main support system while he was trying to make it in Hollywood.
But my view on it is this. I don’t believe that you should remain in a relationship where you’re unhappy. For whatever reason their relationship wasn’t working out. I would give this advice to anyone, Male or female. You don’t need to stay in an unhappy relationship just because that person supported you financially. If the love is gone, then you should go too. Would it really make sense for Jesse Williams to have just remained in that relationship because he owed her payback for her support, whilst being unhappy? I don’t think so.
