Jane is funny. She states a little bit of history to spin her narrative but doesn’t make sense.
Jane Elliott makes a grip of money bragging about her race’s success at massacring, enslaving, maiming, raping, and oppressing black people. The bragging behavior is disguised as her just being a morally righteous white woman denouncing racism in our defense. Just because she acknowledges what’s happening right in front of our faces doesnt mean that she doesn’t like it or that she doesn’t condone it. It’s time to stop taking white people’s words at face value. We mustn’t be so naive and trusting. When it’s time to talk about taking actual real-life action to correct white people’s wrongs(i.e.reparations), there’s no conviction in her statements about making it happen. Only hesitation and reasons why Native Americans deserve reparations more than us. This was all to distract from the fact that she in no way advocates for the socioeconomic upliftment of black people. In fact she dislikes us the most, and would prefer any minority to receive payment for their struggle before we do. She’ll always be glad to entertain talks about racism, as long as we dont dare to actually remove it from society. Hypothetically , if racism were to end, it’d be detrimental to her pockets wouldn’t it? Why would someone who is clearly driven by money, work to remove the very thing that makes them relevant and fuels their income. That’s cognitive dissonance. She likes and benefits from racism, like all whites do. This woman is not a threat to the system of anti blackness, because if she were she’d have been stopped by now. Her job is to pacify the black folks, and her pay is well.
I think the fact that a term such as “Good white people”, has to even be coined in the first place says everything. I’ve seen both black and white people use the term to mitigate the dialogue of race, especially when we’re expressing ourselves in relation to these people. It’s really pathetic and basically whites admitting that their people ain’t shit. I find it funny, but also upsetting that in spite of whites not liking us and treating us poorly, and black people admitting as well, we still find a reason to defend and see the good in these people. And it’s this mentality, this sambo mentality is why we’ll never see black progress, globally.
